BISHOP COWIE AT CAMBRIDGE. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.] [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Cambridge, Last Night. Thb gavden party was successful, the weather being fine and the attendance fair. The proceedings were enlivened by the Cambridge Brass "Band. A meeting of parishioners was held in the open-air in Major Wilson's grounds, Bishop Cowie presiding. The Treasurer of the Church Building Fund stated that the estimated cost of the building and fittings was £2100 ; of that amount they were deficient £760. Replying to questions, the Treasurer stated that any modification of the building plans would be looked upon as a breach ot faith by the subscribers, and urged them to go on with the building as proposed, stating that there were 200 heads of families in the place who one way or another were considered as connected with the Church. If these averaged £4 each that would more than cover the deficiency. Mr Fergusson demurred to the proposal, suggesting that the main building be erected, leaving the tower, etc., to be finished when circumstances admitted. Eventually a resolution was carried that the plans be referred back to the Vestry to ascertain if any reduction in the tenders can be made, the result to be considered at a future meeting.
