HAMILTON BOROUGH ELECTIONS.
A public meeting of burgesses was held at the Oddfellows' Hall, Hamilton, on Thursday evening, for the purpose of selecting burgesses for nomination at the forthcoming municipal elections for the Borough of Hamilton. About 70 persons were present, and Captain Steeie was called to the chair. The proceedings were now and then lively, and numbers of speakers were apt to Tiget discursive at times, bnt were speedily set on the i-ight track by the Chairman, whose rulings were always accepted in good part. A general desire on the part of many seemed to exist to discuss the affairs of the Borough genex'ally and the actions of Councillors in the past, but keeping the object of the meeting in view the Chairman succeeded in at last placing before the meeting the names of three gentlemen for nomination at the forthcoming elections, viz., Messrs J. Kuox, J. K. McDonald, and Robert Harris. On a show of hands being called for, the Chairman declared the result to be as follows : — For J. Knox, 24 ; against, 9. For J. K. McDonald, 22 ; against, 4. For R. Harris, 32 ; against, 0. Messrs S. McLernon, 0. Walluutt, K. Hill, T. G. Saiulea, A. Potter, and W. C. Breakell were also proposed, but declined the honor of being nominated. A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the proceedings to a close.
