TUHIKARAMEA HIGHWAY DISTRICT.

Annual Meeting of Ratepayers. The annual meeting of ratepayers of the Tuhikaramea Highway District was held in tbe Ngahinapouri school on Saturday, the 24th in.st. Mr John Glasson having been voted to the chair, Tlio Secretary read the balance-sheet, which bhowed the receipts to be : Balance in hand 1.-,t July, 1879, £11G; Government subsidies, £113 3s 3d; special grant from Government, £100 ; .subsidy from Waipa County Council, €101 3s 3d; rates collected, £12-1 11s Id; Land Fund, £33 15s Gd ; Hamilton District Board, £17 Is 7d — total, £633 4s Bd. Expenditure: Several woik.s, £410 8n 7d; punting- and advertising, £8 14s 7d ; drain pipes, £12 4s 6d ; timber for bridges, £101 14s 7d ; salaries, £14; engineers' fees, £4 19s; miscellaneous, £16 5s 3d— total, £598 6s 6d; balance in hand, £36 18s 2d. On the motion of Mr Carter, seconded by Mr C. Vickers, the balance-sheet was adopted. Mr Carter then proposed a vote of thanks to the outgoing trustees, coupled with a request that they would again accept office, which was seconded by Mr Drabble and carried. Messrs J. Glaeson and "W. Reid were elected auditors, and Messrs R. Drabble and C. Vickers fence-viewers.

Mr Hadfield informed the meeting that satibfactory arrangements had been made with the Mangapiko District Board by which that body undertook to defray half the cost of a new bridge at Heather's Creek, and, although the arrangement had only been concluded on the previous .Saturday, the outgoing Trustees of this district had felt it their duty, in consequence of the bad state in which the bridge was, to at once take steps for the erection of a new one. They had, therefore, instructed an engineer to at once call for tenders, and the timber was already ordered.
