HAMILTON DISTRICT HIGHWAY BOARD,
The annual inseting of the ratepayers of the Hamilton District Highway Board wae held at the Frankton Hotel on Saturday last, July 24th. Mr John Atkinson was appointed Chairman and Mr Edgecumbe Secretary of the meeting. The Chairman read the notice in the Waieato Times calling the meeting, and requested the outgoing Board to read the statement of annual accounts and balancesheet, which were duly adopted on the motion of Mr John Knox, seconded by Mr J. Ridler. Statement of Annual Accounts and Balance-aheet of the Hamilton Highway District Board for the year ending June 30th, 1880 : — Receipts : To rates for year ending June 30th, 1880, collected, as per rate -book, £184 lls 2d; arrears of rates collected, £13 16s 2d; General Government subsidy, £219 19s ; Waipa County Fund, £163 13s 6d ; cash in hand from last year, £5 18s 3d— total, £587 18s Id. Expenditure : Paid for forming roads, metalling and channelling, £164 18s lid; bridges and culverts, £190 12s 7d ; commission collecting rates, £9 ss; salaries and rent, £9 ss ; printing and advertising, £11 3s; legal expenses, £2 2s; valuation fees, £11 10s; engineers, £9 17s lOd ; sundries, £9 6s Bd— total, £418 Is; balance, agreeing with bank-book, £169 17s. The election of Trustees was then proceeded with. Proposed by Mr Knox, and seconded by Mr Northcroft, " That the old Board be re-elected, substituting Mr John Ridler's name for that of Mr James Raynes." — Carried unanimously. The Chairman then declared the following gentlemen duly elected as Trustees for the Hamilton Highway District Board for the ensuing year :— Messrs Steele, W. Hunt, James Gribble, John Ridler, and George Edgecumbe. Messrs W. Jones and John Atkinson were elected Auditors. Messrs Dinsdale and W. Alexander were elected Fence-viewers. Mr Northcroft brought to the notice of the meeting the desirability of amending some portion of the Rating Act, iv reference to lodging objections to valuations, and the Secretary was requested to wait on Mr Northcroft and prepare a draft of same, and forward to the member for Waipa, requesting him to endeavor to get legislation brought to bear this session for giving effect to the same. Mr John Knox moved a vote of thanks to the outgoing Board, which was carried unanimously. The usual vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a termina* tion.
