Board Meeting.
The first meeting- of the newly-elected Board was held at their office immediately after the annual meeting of ratepayers. All the members were present, and Mr Steele was unanimously elected as Chairman for the ensuing year. The minims of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Resolvtd that Mr John Edgecumbe be appoiuted Secretary for the ensuing year at a salary of £10." Resolved that the Board hold their meetings in Mr John Edgecuinbe's office, and that a rent of os for each meeting of the Board be paid him. Resolved that the regular meetings of the Board be held on the first Saturday in each month. Re&olved that Mr George Edgecumbe be Treasurer for the ensuing year. JReoolvecl that the Board open a separate Bank account for the "Whatawhata and Hamilton road contract, so as to keep the accounts clear from the general funds of the Board.
CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were received from Government ir expenses incurred by staff, amounting 1 to £U 17s 3d, in laying off works on the Whatawhata-Hamilton road; and intimating that this amount would be stopped from the original grant of £600. I A letter was read from Messrs Livingstone and Booth, asking for an extension of time under contract No. 2 of the Whatawhata-Hamilton road. The Board agreed to the request and grauted an extension of three weeks. A letter was received from Messrs B. and J. Coleman, asking for an extension of time under contract No. 3. The Board agreed as before to an extension of three weeks on their contract time. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Tuhikaramea Highway Board, asking for valuation of lands lately added to their district and formerly under this Board. The Secretary informed the Board that lie had attended to this matter. A telegram was read from Government, informing the Board that the £oio applied for on account of the Whatawhafa and Hamilton road had been lodged to the credit of the Board at the Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton. A letter was received from the Collector, advising the collection of rates to the amount of £2i 11s 4d, and lodgment of same to Board's account at the Bank. Resolved that the Secretary order U 18 -inch pipes from Mr Boyd to be delivered at Rayne's landing, and to come by the Waikato Steam Navigation Company. Resolved that the planking and timber and ironwork ®f the old Mystery Creek bridge be sold by auction by Mr John Knox on Saturday, July 31st. Resolved that *Mr Maunders' qftfaf to erect a bridge 13ft. x 13ft, at a crossing from the Whatawhata-Hamilton road to a by-road for a sum of £12 10s be accepted. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the Board then rose.
A householder in Troy, in filling up his census schedule, under the column "where born," described one of hia children " bom in the parlour," and the other "upstairs." The latest sweet thing is intitled, ••Kiss Me Quickly, Birdie, Darling." It is described as serio-comic — the serio part probably beginning upon tUe arrival of the old man,
