CAMBRIDGE HIGHWAY DISTRICT.

The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the above district was h^kl in the schoolhouse, Haut-ipu, on Saturday. There were about a dozen ratepayer*; present, and the chair was occupied, by Mr J. H Smith. The Chairman read the advertisement calling the meeting, and called upon the Clerk to the Board to read the statement of accounts for the past year. From the balance-sheet, a.s duly audited, it appeared that the receipts were made up as follows: — Accommodation bills, £104 4slod; contractors' deposits, £10; miscellaneous, £11 4s 6d; rates collected, £486 6s 6d; Government subsidy, £125 138 ; ditto County, £110 ; Bank overdraft, £114 11s 3d— total, £1352. The expenditure was made up as follows : — Overdrawn at Bank at beginning of the year, £124 7s 3d ; accommodation bills, £266 ; advertising and printing, £19 18s ; stationery, £1 10s 6d; bridges and culvert?, £43 Is 6d ; commission on rates collected, £30 14s; deposits returned, £10; engineers' £1 11s 6d; miscellaneous, £21 7s 9d; roads, £813 9s; salaries, £20; leaving 1 a debit balance of £114 11s 3d, being the amount of the Bank overdraft. After somw discussion as to the money expended in different parts of the district, the balance-sheet was adopted on the motion of Mr J. J. Smith seconded by Mr Fantham. The meeting then proceeded to the election of trustees, etc., for the ensuing year, with the following result: — Trustees : Messrs S. S. G-raham, W. L. Martyn, C. Snowden. A. Main, and J. J. Smith ; Auditors —Messrs James Hally <md H. M. D. Pearson : Fence-viewers — Captain Runciman and Mr John Martyn, junr. This was all the business, and after the usual compliment to the chair the meeting separated.

Board Meeting. A meeting of the newly-elected Board was held immediately after the above, at which Mr S. S. Graham was re-elected chairman. Some other minor business was transacted and the Board rose.
