The Disease among Maclean and Co.'s Cattle.
We regret to learn that the disease, which has been spreading rapidly during the last few days, is now reported to exist among the fine Devon cattle belonging to Maclean and Co., on the Pah Farm, near Cambridge. On Tuesday Maclean and Co. reported that some of* the cattle were sick — it was feared with pleuro — and asking the Board to have them inspected as soon as possible. They further informed the Board that the cattle have been in the same paddocks since October, 1878, having been imported from Sydney, N.S.W., in the same month. As they have only been removed once since then — to the show at Cambridge last year — it was somewhat of a mystery how they got the infection. The only solution of the matter which occurred to them was that the disease was communicated to them by some of the cattle straying on the roads. As several cattle have been proved to have the disease in the Cambridge district — ~- — — «»wu nyyCuiu puiicuuy rSabonaSie. " The Devon cattle are all pedigree animals, and were imported by the firm at considerable cost. If, therefore, the disease has, as it ia feared, got amongst them to any extent, the result will be a loss te the country at large. j
