WHATAWHATA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

The meeting held on Saturday evening, in connection with cometery affairs, was largely attended. Mr Corboy occupied the chair. The objoot of the meeting was to appoint persona to act as Trustees for the cemetery ground : this had been done at a former meeting, Imt owing to its not being properly advertised, the proceedings were not legal. However the same Trustees were appointed, with the addition of Mr Salmon. After the cemetery business had been disposed of, the punt question was brought forward, and after some discussion, a resolution whs carried to the effect that we will keep the old punt, until we obtain a bridge. Mr .Salmon then explained the action l\o

had taken in connection with the Hamil-ton-Whatawhata road, pointing ou£ that so far from wishing to obstruct the work, he strongly advocated its being carried out,, and produced his report to Mr F. A. Whitaker to that effect. Your Correspondent, who was present, then frankly admitted his being wrongly informed as to Mr Salmon's view and action in the matter, the more readily now that the work had been commenced, and made the amende honorable by proposing a vote of thanks, which was carried unanimously, to Mr Salmon, for the trouble he had taken. I must not forget to mention that our respected constable, Mr Clarke, is under orders for removal, the settlers generally are sorry to hear of his leaving, and this feeling has taken the shape of a requisition, signed by everyone, which will be forwarded to Inspector Thompson, asking that Constable Clarke be allowed to re main. In his leaving we shall not only lose a good officer but a good contribution to our school roll, for Mr Clarke has several children attending school. However, the settlers will do what they can to keep him.
