LINES ON THE DEATH OF A LITTLE CHILD, WHO DIED AT PUKERIMU, ON MONDAY LAST.
Many are the griefs and comforts Unto us this earth afford ; Happy are we when we see That one and all are from the Lord ! He doth send commercial losses When we have our earthly gains ; He afflicts and pains our bodies, That our hearts He may obtain. He gives parents little children, — Things of love, and joy, and care ; Oft He plucks the little rosebuds For the place He has prepared ! Thus it is, my little Bertie, Thou hast gone from us so soon ; Bathed in tears thy mama miss thee, Papa's comforts fled the room. Empty cot, chair, little booties, Toys, and playthings, .ill bring grief; Earthly frieuds cannot bring comfort Unto parents thus bereaved. Only He who thus has spoken, — Let thy children come to Me ; Put within thy heart a token Of His love, and mercy free ! Let all parents who dejected, Bow before their Saviour Lord ; He will give them peace and comfort, Which the earth cannot afford. Fare-thee-well, my little Bertie, Not in time your face I'll see ; Never more you'll come to grandpaGrandpa soon will come to thee. Sleep on in thy lone, dark chamber, Blest for littlu children's sake, Till the morning comes when Jesus All the dead m Christ shall wake !
