THE MAYORAL ELECTION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Permit me to call your attention to the telegram re the late election for the Mayoralty published in the Herald of the 18th. The correspondent who sent that down, whoever he may be, deserves the severest censure. The telegram is a slur on the borough, an insult to the ratepayers, and injurious in the extreme to their vested interests. The telegram was devoid of truth too, as representing to outsiders that there was no interest taken by the burgesses. This was not so, for the reason that the burgesses considered Councillor Beale the fittest person to fill the office, and would not put him to the inconvenience and expense of a poll.— l am, Arc., Bukgess.
