FAREWELL DINNER TO MR BUSH, R.M.

On Friday evening the settlers at Raglan entertained Mr Bush, R.ftT., at a farewell banquet onhis leaving- the distriot to take up the duties of his new appointment on the Kast Coat-t. '1 ho dinner was given tit Graham's -*oyal Hotel, the Rev. Mr Sclianc > enburg 1 occupied the chair The dinner w<ts a great success, and the usual loyal toasts having been disposed of, the health of the gueat of the evening was drann with all duo honours, the wife and bairns not beinc: forgotten. Mr Bush responded in suitable terms and appeared very much affeoted at leaving a district in which he had so long worked and reniiled. He referred to the natives m very favourable terms, and said that though Rauhaus in religion, they were staunch adherents to the law, and behaved well and respectably within the district. A native chief responded on behalf of the Maoris,_ referring to Mr Bush's official connection with the district as havin^ been as pleasing to the natives as it wal satisfactory to the Groverntnent. After all the toasts were disposed of the guests adjourned to the Courthouse, where ths

ladies had already assembled, and the evening was brought to a close by a dance, which was kept up till daylight.
