Tuesday, itbb brigades. Replying to Mr Stevens, Major Atkinson said the Q-overnmehb hoped to make provision m the Supplementary Estimates for placing fire brigades of the colony m the same position as regards capitation allowances as that held by Volunteers. A. ROLAND FOB AN OLIVER.

Sir George Grey asked if the Government will be prepared to purchase locomotives built,in the colony, at a price above cost of similar engines when imported from England or America, the engines being guaranteed and tested as may be required ; and if found suitable, will an order be given for fifteen or so of such locomotives, for use on the New Zealand railways ; and will Government call for tenders for such locomotives, so as to ascertain the price at which they can be supplied.

Mr Oliver replied that the late Government had ordered sufficient rolling-stock to serve for several years. INFOEHATION AS TO LAND. Replying to Mr Barron, Mr Rolleston said, so far as he was aware, arrangements had been made for exhibiting* at each land acd post-office\iu the colony, m some conspicuous place V> which the public have access, maps showing* distinctly, m blocks and sections all lands open for occupation, together with description of such lands, showing attitude, exposure, siature of soil, character of existing vegetation, and price or rent, and terms on which such land may be acquired. He was also aware that all these particulars were regularly inserted m one gazette for public information.

nEGtrLATIOHS OP ELECTORS BHilj. The regulation of Electors Bill was then considered m committee. The interpretation clause was altered so as to make the word elector mean any person whose name appears on the electoral roll, or the holders of a miner's right. Mr Turnbull moved, " That the clause might be made to read, so that all elections would take place on the same day." The amendment was lost. Ayes, 30 ; noes, 31.

The clause, as printed, was adopted. A number of the clauses were passed with amendmentj after which progress was reported, and leave granted to sit again.
