Last year there were exactly the same number of acceptors as this year, but on that occasion 30 came to the post. It may be interesting to state th.t tho successful winners of the £5000 sweep drawn m Auckland on this occasion are all three working men, and none of the prizes | come to the city. The first prize, Darriwell, goes to a bushman residing m Kennedy's Hay, near Coromandel ; the second *to a man esiding and working on the island of Waiheke; and the third to a resident at Whangarei Beads. They will no doubt be much delighted when they learn of their good luck. In regard to Darriwell, the winner of the Cup, "Old Turfite," m liis sporting notes published the Herald last Saturday week, gives the following: — "Darriwell last year was a good consistent performer throughout the season. He has wintered well and is m good strong work. Many prefer his chance to that of his stable companion, Le Loup, but all seem to say that they are the two best Cup horses trained at Flemirgton. Darriwell's best performance last year was winning m a canter, by three lengths at the V.R.C. autumn .vteeting, the Three and t* our-year-old Handicap, St.Leger course, carrying Sst. 21bs., m 3min. I7secs., having some good horses behind him. He is by Tim Whiffler (imported), out of Norma — therefore bred to stay — and has only 7st. 41bs. to carry." f The following was issued as an extra from this office yesterday : — In addition to the result of Tuesday's Melbourne " Cup " we publish a correct list of the winners of the " Blue Ribbon " of the Australian Colonies since its commencement^ — 1861.
