Thirteen horses ntarted, and the event was pulled off by Surwanow, who bet Boliadrum by a length oulj, Rival taking third place. On only one occasion lms thi3 race been won m the snrne time, namely by Chester m 1877. The Derby and the Cup are both institutions ot nearly 20 years' standing, the first having been established m 1860, the latter m 1861.
