HAMILTON POLICE COURT.
Monday, 27th October. (Before H. W. Northcroft, Esq., R.M.) ! Drunkenness. James Colderwood pleaded guilty to the above offence. His Worship asked what were the circumstances of tho case? Sergeant McGovem stated that the prisoner left Hamilton yesterday forenoon and wont in the direction of the railway, and about 3 p.m. he returned to Hamilton rolling drunk. His Worship remarked that this was just the time when children went to Sunday School, and having ascertained from Sergeant McGovern that the defendant was in tho habit of drinking a good deal. He said he regretted it was not in his power to commit defendant to prison for a long period. There was nothing more disgusting than to see a man druuk on tho Sabbath day. His being a married man with a family ouly aggravated tho case, and made it%more disgraceful. If defendant appeared before him again on a similar charge he would give him a severe sentence. Fined 10s and costs, or in default 48 hours' imprisonment.
