RAGLAN.
The district of Raglan has just been visited by the President of tho New Zealand Wesleyan Conference, accompanied by the Rev. Henry Bull, as a deputation from the Home Mission Fund Committee. On Wednesday morning the principal Maori settlement was visited. A large number of Maoris came together in the Church. A ddresses of a suitable character were delivered by tho President and Mr Bull, the Rev. C. H. Schnackenberg acting as interpreter. The same afternoon the President and party visited the Okete district, \t 2.30 a large number of the settlers assembled in the church, there for divine service. The opening part of the service was conducted by Mr Bull, after which, the President preached an eloquent and impressive sermon on tho progress of Christianity, and the opening now presented to missionary enterprise. In the evening, a large company assembled in the Raglan Church, where the President again preached an doquent sermon to a deeply attentive audience. On Thursday morning the Te Mata district was visited, and at 12 30 the schoolroom was filled by settlers from far and near who had come to hear tho discourse of the President of the Conference. On Thursday evening the great event of the day came off iii the i form of a tea meeting, which was largely attended by the people of l'aglan aud the surrounding districts. An excellent supply of "edibles was spread upon the • ables, provided gratuitously by Mesdames Gilmour, Brce, Wallis, and Schnackcnberg. After ample justice had been done to the tea, the tables were cleared, and the Rev. Mr Schnackenberg took the chair aud delivered the opening address. Among tho speakers were Messrs Huirima aud Antipa, tho Revs, the President and H. Bull, Messrs Duncan and Pegler. The President gave a lucid exposition of the Home Mission 3?and which was heartily supported. Mrs Schnackenbei g presided ably at the harmonium, and a vote of thanks to the ladies brought to a close a very successful and enthusiastic meeting.
