SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1879.
Equal and exact justice to all men, Of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political. Hero shall tho Press the People's right maintain, Unawed by influence and unbribed by gain.
Our Wellington telegrams, received at 12 o'clock last night, show that parties are evenly balanced at the present nioment, and that the Opposition are puisuing a purely factious and obstructive policy, without the hope of a workiug majority to carry on the government, if by some fluke they succeed in ousting the present Ministry. Meantime the Government are bringing down really liberal measures. Most damaging disclosures iu the Treasury and-Native Office departments are, we believe, likely to be made by Major Atkinson and Mr JBryce when their Staloments are delivered, and it would almost appear that the late Government, to prevent these damaging disclosures, aro using every endeavour to re-occupy the Treasury bsnehes before the Ministers above referred to have the opportunity of laying bare the biota on the administration of the late Government.
