Waikato Times Office, Friday Evening. AUCKLAND CATTLE MARKET. MB A. BUCKLAND'S WEEKLY BEPOfiT. At the Haymarket, on October 3, choice oaten hay brought 5s to 5s 3d the cwt.; small loads, from 18s to 30s each; potatoes, £6 10s the ton; maize, 3s lid to 4s; oats, 3s Id the bushel. Horse stoo:< were offered in greater number than for some time past, and for draught stock there was a steady demand at good valu3s. Medium draught brought from £ls 15s to £33; heavy draught, £45,. The cattle sales at Waiuku and Pnkekohe were well supplied with stock, about 150 head being yarded in either place. There was brisk competition, and all sold at improved prices. Tho sale of hides and skins on Tuesday was unusually s.-aall. There was no alteration in values. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows at calving were in full numbers. There was a steady inquiry for all gofed animals at prices varying from £7 10s to £lO ss, but middling animals were of less value than barren cows. Store cattle in large supply, from 200 to 300 head sold. There was a full attendance of buyers, and prices were higher throughout than were obtained at the fair. Eat cattle in usual numbers, 120 head sold, generally of large size and superior quality; prices were something lower than last week, and best quality ranged from 32s to 35s the lOOlbs. Eat sheep in usual supply, and generally of superior quality. Prices advanced to 3d for prime sheep in thin wool; shorn, 2d the lb. Lambs were numerous, and although lower than last week, were at remunerative prices; good animals from 9s to 13s each. Store sheep sold more freely than for some time, longwoolied ewes in their wool, with lambs at side, brought 13s 6d each. MESSBS HUNTER AND NOLAN S WJSEKLY BEPOBT. Horses. —There has been a marked improvement both as to supply and demand. On Friday, at the Durham Yards, above an average number were submitted for disposal by auction, buyers were in attendance, and almost without exception sales were effected at prices satisfactoiy to the vendor. We quote hacks from £9 to £l6; aged draught horsed, £ls 10s to £22; light harness horses, from £l2 to £2l each.
Hides and skins, on Taesday, -were •well competed for, and sold, skins, from Is 3d to 2s lOd each ; hides, from 2d to 3d per lb. Cattle.—There has been a good deal of animation in the market; dairy and store stock have fully maintained last week's values, and for fat beasts there has heen a decidedly upward tendenoy. There was a good supply of all descriptions at Newmarket, on Tuesday, and at Pukekohe, on Wednesday, there was a full muster of well-bred young cattle and dairy cows, which were sold at relatively higher values than at Newmarket. We quote dairy cows from £8 to £lO ss; young store cows (well-bred), from £5 10s to £6 12s 6d; aged cows, from £3 7s 6d to £4 10s; yearling steers, from £3 2s 6d to £4 9s; and 2-year-olds, from £4 to £5 7s 6d; 3-year-olds, from £5 15s to £7 2a sd; beef, from 35s to 37s 6d per lOOlbs. Sheep.—The supply has been adequate, and an improved demand has existed. Competition at Newmarket, on Tuesday, was good, and an advance on the previous week's prices was given. A draft of fat wethers (in wool), from Mr R. Middleton's flock, Papakura Valley, sold from 20s to 23s o'd each. We quote fat wethers (in wool), frpni 16s to 23s 6d; mixed sexes (in wool), from 12s to 16s; shorn sheep, from lis to 14s 9d. Fat lambs were yarded in excess of demand, and sold from 5s to 12s 6d each.
