[press association.] LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. TUESDAY. In tho Council to-day, after the formal business, RESIGNATION INTIMATED. Colonel Whitmore proposed a postponement of all busines. on the order paper, as he and hi. colleagues were about leaving office, and he wished to un .ertake no more business. Colonel Whitmore then thanked the Council and the Speaker f >r their invariable kindness and assistance, aud hoped that any hasty word spoken in the heat of the debate would be forgotten lie had accepted office with diffi.lonc, feeling doubts as to his competence, and his doubts were not wholly removed by his two years' experience, but ho had dono his best, through the forbearance and assistance of his brother Councillors. The hon. gentleman was loudly cheered on sitting down. Sir D. Bell read a letter from Mr Hall, explaining that, in tlio unsettled slats oi affairs, the Council would think it well to adjourn a few days, when h. expected to be preparer! with a Ministry and policy that would satisfy the \ssembly, the Governor, and th. colony. ir D. Bell explained that the letter being sent by him had no political significance. The Counoil ndjoui-ucd from 2.4-5 p.m. until 4 p.m. when it met to deal with the Imprest Supply Bill, but as tbe bill had not been sent up, the Council nga,in adjourned until the usual hour next day.
