HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

TUESDAY. The House met at 2.30. AUCKLAND CITY WEST ELECTION. The Speaker notified the receipt of a petition against the election of the two members for Auckland City Wost. He added that before the matter was inquired into, the petition would require to lie on the tablo of the House for ten chiys to allow objections being stated to .Insecurities lodged. Mr Hislop. admitted, as a point of order, that as the petition was directed agaius: two members, the form of the Act could uot be complied with under these circumstances. He submitted that the petition as framed could not be received. The Speaker said the point raised was one to be decided at a .subsequent period. On the motion of Mr uirs.house. Friday, the 11th day of October, wa> appointed to inquire into the allegations contained in tho petitions. SIR GEORGE GXEY'S ELECTION. Tho Speaker further notified the receipt" of a petition from Mr .13. Richardson, against the election of ir George Grey foi Christohurch. On the motion of Mr Bowen, Friday, the 17th inst. v. as fixed to inquire into tin matter. The same day was, on Mr Boweu's motion, fixed for its consideration. THE ADDRESS IN REPLY : NEW GOVERNMENT On resuming, The speaker read a reply mado by the Governor, in which he stated that he was at all times anxious that his responsible advisers should be in accord with tinrepresentatives in Parliament, and that he had taken measures with the view oi forming a new Government. The Premier said that he wished to explain, on behalf of himself and his colleagues, that they had placed their resignations in the hands of the Governor, who had been pleased to acoept of the same. His Excellency h;id been pleased to request that they would retain office until their successors had been appointed, and that, therefore, they only occupied their present position until a new Government had been formed. The Hon Mr Hall said that yesterday afternoon he had been sent for by the Governor, and requested to take upon himself the duty of forming anew ove'-n---inent. Aftor coinmunicatiu-; with Hi Excellency, he had undertaken to do so. -ince then he had boen engaged in th-si task, but as the House would readily understand, he had not yet succeeded in completing arrangements. He woiud. therefore, ask for an adjournment to enable him to ma e the necessary arrange • ments. He had intended to have asked for iin adjournment until Thursday, but as he understood the Premier wanted certain supplies voted immediately, he would ask for the adjournment until tomorrow, with the understanding that, supplies beino- voted, the Mouse would agree to a further adjournment until Friday, when he would be enabled to announce the formation of a Government which would command the approval of tho Uouse. In seconding the motion, the Prcnnor said he did so on the distinct understanding that he did not in any way commit himself to the opinion that tbe new Gonerument would command the approval of the House. At 3.30 the House adjourned till tomorrow at 2.30 p.m.
