[press agency.] SUPREME COURT. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Anderson, a labourer, committed from ; Hamilton, was convicted of rape on a., old Maori woman, at Whatawhata, and sentenced to four years imprisonment. William Denhaiu whs found guilty of stealing £4000 worth of securities from Singleton, a new arrival, and recommended to mercy, on account of previous good character, and that he had apparently yielded to sudden temptation. Sentenced to six months imprisonment. W CLLI N GTO M, Tuesday. The ' New Zealander' to-day, says : " i'he Governor has no warm side towards Sir George Grey as Premier, Sir Hercules being at heart Ultra-Conservative." The ' New Zealander' also hints that when Sir George Grey went to Government Mouse to lay his resignation before the Governor, he found him lolling in an easy chair, where he enunciated oracularly and leisurely that, judging from tho present aspect of affairs, tho country is not disposed to go in unreservedly in support of Liberal measures.
