CAMBRIDGE HIGHWAY DISTRICT BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the abovd Board, was held at the residence of Mr Johir Shaw, Cambridge rond, on the evening of Saturday last. The room, T should say at a rough guess, is about 24 ' feet by 11. A reference was made to a promise, ; mado, by the Hon. Mr Sheehan m May last, to grant a subsidy to the Cambridge Board, m aid of local efforts to make a road from Cambridge, to Piako — now known as the 'Victoria road. The road has been made, and is, even at this season, supposed to be capable of bearing vehicles containing- a ton weight. The contractor has not yet been settled with, \ and as the Banks are not disposed to grant unlimited overdrafts, tho Secretary was instructed to. make a respectful application, to Mr Sheehan for tho promised money.

In the matter of the Victoria road contract (Mr Montague's), the Chairman, Mr S.S.Graham, with Mr Allwill were deputed to ride over tho ground, and generally to settle the matter by making arrangements for payment.

Tenders for the repairs and maintenance of No. 1 section^ Victoria road, for twelve months, were opened by the Chairman as follows, viz. : — MrR. M.Shaw .. . . £20 0 0 Mr Charles Crouch . . . . v 47 0-0 Mr Edward Tucker . . . . 52 0 0 The acceptance of a tender was deferred, pending the inspection by Messrs. Graham and Allwill, who were empowered to accept the lowest or any tender. This concluded the business.
