A NORTH NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION.
An association under the above denomination has been' formed m Auckland, to further the interests of the North Island, a very sti'ong belief prevailing chat the interests of the North and Auckland especially have been much neglected by the Parliament, and that owing to a want of unanimity amongst her representatives the North has failed to command the respect and obtain the advantages which, from her position and importance, she; was entitled to. A meeting called by circular was held on Friday
afternoon, 'and was. attended by sawa thirty leading citiaeius of. Auckland.
Mr Reader Wood having been voted to the chair, the foi: owing amended recommendations of the Executive Gomrnitbse as the aims and objects of the Association wciu unanimously adopted :
1 . Irrespective of party to watch over all legislation, aud especially that a _ feeling the Northern portion of this colony.
2. To endeavor, by all constitutional means, to. elicit au expression of public opinion on important questions, and to inform tho Government and Parliament of tho same.
3. To devise means for promoting and protecting the interests of the ProvincieJG*. Districts of Auckland generally. It was further resolved : —
; That an executive committee, not exceeding nine m number, be appointed, which shall summon meetings of the association at any time, aud take all necessary steps for carrying out its resolutions. '
That a treasurer and two honorary secretaries be appointed, who shall be r.e q//ieio y members of the Executive Committee.
. That as early as possible the Executive Committee be instructed to call a meeting of tho association to disccuss the native policy of the country with a view to its reconstruction, so as to give equal privileges to the native and colonist, and to reduce expenditure, also to prepare resolutions fer the consideration of tho association.
All the gentlemen present having" signified their asssenfc to become members of the association, Messrs G. Aiokin and E. T. Dufuar wero elected honorary secretaries, and Mr G. Holdship, treasure!'. The following gentleman were then eleoted as an Executive Committee to Garry out the wishes of tho asaociation, and to bring before them' from time to time, all matters of importance : — Messrs J. M. Clark, J, Chambers, W, Buchanan, Hia Worship the Mayor, Messrs Morrin, F. Larl.ins, W.C. Dalcly, R. I\_ Stsvenson, and J. M. Dargaville.
