MANGAPIKO HIGHWAY DISTRICT.

The Annual Meeting of the Ratepayers of the above district was held in the Paterancfi School-room, on Saturday, the 19th instant, at one o'clock. 'Mr Tisdall having been voted into the Chair, proceedings commenced by the Chairman road, ing the advertisement conveninj- the meeting, which was immediately followed by tho Annual Statement, as follows : — •

After due discussion, tho Statement was passed, as read.

The following' Ratepayers were then duly nominated for Trustees : Messrs M. Krippuer, R. Bosanko, W. Mackey, A.* Legerfcwood, G. C. Y. Tisdall, E. Robinson, G. Finch, and S. Tvobe, of whom the first five were declared duly elected, after a poll had been taken.

The meeting re-elected the old Auditors, Messrs A. J'. Scots ;.ud H. Roche, and appointed Messrs Meredith and D. Mimro as Fence-

viewers. The usual vote of thanks to the outgoing Trustees nnd also to tbo Chair brought the meeting to a closo. u

At th 3 conclusion of the meeting another was called for the purpose of discussing matters of interest and importance to the district, Mr Tisdall being replaced in tho Chair. The scab question was first on the Board, the general opjnion having been heard, the Incoming Board wero requested to put a stop to the practice of keeping' j&ejep on the run aud as a lasb resburißSpif sheepowners prove obstinate, "to bring the Im. pounding Act into force.

A matter of merely local interest relating to a change of road having been digested, the next diet was the Railway Station which it is proposed lo erect on Taylor's fiat instead of the 1 aterangi road as firat planned by Mr Stewart. Opinion was unanimous that the change would be injurious to the general good, bein?transferred from a main read to an inaccessibly position and necessitating the construction of a costlv pioco of road of considerable length. A committee was appointed to draw up a petition and obtain signatures praying that no change be made in die site.. The doings of our sapient County Councillors came in for their share of the compliments usually dispensed at ratepayers meetings, or rather in this case there would be doings in re the appointment of an -Unsfinee. f OP the County. The meeting did not rise to the opportunity, in fact, te be candid the idea was decidedly sab upon,i.ifc is possible to sib on an idea, one gentleman getting so far as to give it as hia opinion that the Council were a mild nuisance bub had done as little harm as they could, and as it was not clear who would be master or who would be mm if the Council appointed, the proposal was rejected. A vote of thanks being passed to the Chair, the meeting dissolved.
