ALEXANDRA.

July 21, 1879.

The Annual Meeting of the ratepayers of the Alexandra Township Road Board District; took place iu the Public Hall, on the 12th instant. Being unavoidably absent, and having had some difficulty in obtaining a copy of tho minutes, must bo mv excuse for the delay in forwarding the report. The meeting, generally

has beon a mest unsatisfactory one. As usual, few ratepayers were present, and a great deal of grumbling, and I think in this case justly, is indulged in at tho meeting not having been advertised in the local paper, the Waikato Times, so that few were aware of the meeting taking place; so th_b the great majority of the ratepayers are dissatisfied witb, the business clone. Two, ab least, of the new Board are said to have been illegaly elected. One of them, notably the new Chairman appointed, who ifc is thought is ineligible, he being #, Government servant, in receipt of upwards of £100 per annum, and the other as nob being a bona fide ratepayer. The Balance Sheet is also complained of, as showing so large a balance -in hand, the accounts having only been made up to the lsb of '"lasb April. Ib is said that at the present time the balance shown is almost expended, or due bo contractors. At the meeting Mr Edward, was called to the chair, and read the notice convening the meetino-. The Chairman of the outgoing Trustees read the Statement of Accounts, which were passed as read. The following were tueQ nom j. nated as Trustees for the ensuing year, viz.:— Messrs Edwards, Aubin, lunch, Asmus, Preeoe, McDonald, and Grant. A ballot being taken, bhe following, after so _ie wrangling (Mr Grant wishing to poll fifteen votes for himself, which was disallowed) w6 re de'claredclulyelected :— Messrs. Aubin, Finch, Preece, McDonald, and Edwards, Messrs. Burns and Gannons way were elected Fence-viewers, and Messrs. Hill and Ewarfc Auditors, A rate of Is in the £ was unanimously agreed to. A letter from the Secretary of the Waipa County Council, suggesting the appointment of an engineer for all the Boards of the district, to be paid out of the County funds, was agreed to. This terminated the business.'
