BRITISH TRADE INCREASING.
LONDON (undated). The Board of Trade returns for the imprest show that last month they amount to £29,875,500, showing an increase of «£3,3i3,750 as compared with the last year. The exports for tbe last month amount £16,187,500, showing an inorease of £59?,750. LONDON, April S. The Houso of Commons negatived Female Suffrage by 217 to 103, and by 252 to 164 rejected the Local Option Bill. The Prince of Assam, who insulted Rivers Wilson, has apologised. Dr Newman has been created a Cardinal. The Country Miners' Association reject all compromise. The Clyde shipwrights are uniting against employers. The distress m Sheffield continues. The military suppressed operators at Preston. Broadhead, the Sheffield agitator, is dead. France and Portugal blockade Dahoniy. Bismarck favors the proposal to establish Alsac and Loraine into new states. Germany proposes an import duty on iron, tobacco, rice, meat and coal. The Russian Nihilists and gendarmes have had vera I encounters. Many of the Socialists have been arrested. A State footman at St. Petersburgh died of plague. The Government discovered a plot to liberate Nihilists. The Czar charged the Czarwitch with subversive tendencies, and con fined him to his palace. The plague is spreading m the Southern Provinces. Kaufman's resignation is due to failure of Afghan policy. Sysons, Quarter-Master General probably succeeds Lord Chelmsford. The last reinforcement left London on the 11th March. Tho native forces are disbanded. The Cape ' Argus ' says the Zulus desire peace, with tribal independence. The Piince Imperial petitioned for a ooiruissic-u m the British
Army at the Capa, but was refused. Probably he will be promoted to the An tilery Staff. The House of Commons voted a million and a half for the war. Mr Jenkins attacked Lord Chelmsford, and said his advancement was due to occult ,nfluence. Sir Stafford said the Government would not supersede him. The Indian Government proposes a five million loan. A bloody conflict took place , between the pretenders to the throne. The adherents of Yakobb were successful. Snow embarasses the British movements. General Sherman is dead.
