HAMILTON EAST SCHOOL.

Thr following are the annual report and balance-sheet read and adopted at the meeting of householders held, on Monday last for the election of a School Committee : — The Committee, in laying their statement before the annual meeting, would call attention to the pleasinir fact that the school, under Mr and Mrs Field's management, is steadily progressing iu numbers and in educational attainments. First, as to numbers ; Number on roll, Dec, 1877, 111; number on roll, Deo., 1878, 146; average attendanoe, Doc, 1877, 73 ; aver age attendance, Dec, 1878, 89 ; inorea.se on roll number, 1878, 32 ; increase in average attendance, 187s, 16 ; average attendance beginning of Jan., 1879, Uo. Secondly, as to progress iu learning, I am authorised to say that tho examiners wore exceedingly pleased at tho groat progress made by the different classes in all subjects, and at the exceptionally high position attained by some. At the conclusion of the examination, valuable prizes wero distributed, and a Christmas treat given to the children, at a coat of about iii 6. Tho Committee agreed to bring the Compulsory Clause into force on April 18, 1879, but trusted that tho pareuts o? such children who havo not. yet come to the school will no longer rob their children of this high privilege. The Committee applied for and obtained from the Board an increase to Mrs .'ield's salary of £1') per annum. A pupil teacher was appointed in the person of Miss Kite Alien, whoso conduct so far has given unqualifj.ed .satisfaction. A clock has been obtained for the school, and sundry improvements made in the teacher's rcsideuoe. A handsome bell was presented to the school by Messrs T. & S. Morriii, and has been hung by tha Board at a cost ai £4. The financial position of the Committee is satisfactory, and it shews a balance credit of B.s 21. A further sum uf £2 7s 6d is overdue from tho Central Board. This amount has been paid in since this statement was drawn out, and audited by Captain Mcpherson. — __- ccipts: 1878, May 5., Centra].
