I Sic, — It appears some difficulty has arisen between the Officer Commanding the Waikato District and tho Commanding Officer of the Waikato Cavalry Volunteers as to where the annual muster is to bo held. It is generally supposed that the wishes of parties unconnected with the Cavalry are, m the opinion of some, more entitled to consideration than the wishes of the members of the Corp itself, who, being soldiers, shoidd parade where ordered, which it is to be hoped they will do, so long as the order comes through tho proper channel. Now, sir, the Waikato Volunteer Cavalry have been m existence many years, aud, although, they have not, as a corp, been called upon to cuter the field, it is more than probable that their presenco amongst us has not a little _ tended to keep matters quiet. If, happily, tho country is m a condition of absolute security from attack, then perhaps it may not matter much whether the reasonable requests of officers are acceded to or not. But, if it is considered advisable to fester and keep together a force such as Waikato now possesses— the effi- | cieucy of which has been vouched for not only by the Inspecting Officer, but also by His Excellency theGovernor, and that old Cavalry officer, the Defence Minister — perhaps those m power would do well to try and accede to reasonable requests, especially when nothing further is involved than the convenience or otherwise of officials. Nominally, the difficulty is, as first stated, between tho officers, but many think it is a well-known old friend iv now colors — district Tlio Wsilltuto Agricultural Show -was very cleverly smothered at Ohiupo, and revived again at Cambridge. Do you think tho Waikato Turf Club should follow suit : j NgariiaAvabia, Hamilton, Ohaupo, Alexandra, Kihikihi, and the To Awamutu districts are, when united, too strong to allow this institution to die so quietly, and it is qnite possible that the muster, being at Te Awamutu (or anywhere excepting Ohaupo) may be oxpectod to act^ a s tha thin end of the wedge with which it is hoped to break fcho unity. Certain, persons seem to bo of opinion that W^ikato is not so large as it actually is> and are trying to have the boundary properly defined (c'lde tho now county). X-I am, &C,, CiursiiEß.
