Silt,— lt Is the proverbial last straw that breaks the camels back, and the W. S. Company have put thg last straw on the backs of long suffering and patient Waipa settlers. Not only are they to represent us on the river, but on land, also. Have we lost till independence, that we are to be represented m tho Waipa County Council by a paid servant of the Company ; for this is simply what is meant by the requisition to Mr R. R. Hunt, appearing iv the Waikato Times, signed, as may be seen at a glance* by a number of engineers and others on the Company's steamers, with a few settlors names judiciously intermixed.. The settlers have already a good man m the field, whose requisition was signed by influential and bonafide settlers only. How earnest the Company's nominee will be m getting roads for us, when every mile of good road on tl c Waipa means a direct loss to the Company, for the settlers are only waiting for the NgaruaAvahia and Hamilton main roads to be opened, to cart their produce to the railway, instead of paying a hoavy river freight. The W. S. N. Company could not commit any act which would set the bulk of tho Waipa settlers more against them, than by bringing out an employee of their own, to defeat, if possible, a buna jldr, Waipa settler m the forthcoming County Election. —l am, Sec , Newcastle Elecxob.
