PIAKO.

October 19. Mr W. G. Harp's biby, which got its head fractured, is supposed to be progressing favourably toAvards recovery. We had another accident here lately, which seems to exemplify the common remark, thafc accidents never happen singly. Mr J". Cochrane, along wifch other tAvo members of the Koad Board had been engaged inspecting the roads in the Thames direction, with the view of letting the works required to be undertaken. After fiuishing their*' task Mr Cochrane was returning home after dark, and from some cause the horse he was riding stum-, bled, and rolled over on to one of Mr Cochrane's legs, On gathering himself up he was afraid his ankle was dislocated, or some bone broken. Dr Wndd ington, however, on examination, [found thafc it was only severel} 7 sprained. We are all very sorry that Messrs Cochrane and Walker have sold out. Our schoolmaster I am sure will participate in the sorrow as tho absence &f the two families in the school will be considerably felt. 1 do not mean however, to infer thafc he would nofc have been sorry apart from that. As Messrs Morrin- owned over 20,000 acres in the district previous to the above purchase, someof us thought they had plenty. However, they are going on with an immense amount of work. I was told a few days asjo (hat they were about to send up some fifteen additional pairs of horses which sounds something like Arork. Still I would rather see ordinary s : xad farms than such immense estates. — Owns Correspondent.
