HARAPEPE.
June 13. A meeting of the District Board was held in the school house, on Saturday last, the Bth inst. The meeting was merely to reeeive tenders for some small cuttings on the high road to Whatawhata. Mr H. Pohlen's tender for the Ist cutting was accepted; for the 2nd there way no tender. The other business of the meeting was of trifling importance. The inhabitants of this district are very indignant at Sir George Grey's, plan of settling Maori's amongst them, and there is some talk of a public meeting on the subject before tl • House meets. It seems the natives have already put in their claims, as they have stopped the works on the Raglan Road, and the only reason they give is, that the so called King has authority over the land it passes through—a nice stats of affairs! v|Rain has {been plentiful here of late, as for this last fortnight we have had little else, and bub very little out-door work can be done. SportsmeD complain of pheasants being scarce in this district; if they are, sparrows are plentiful, as they are in thousands, so they can fill their bags with them.—Correspondent.
