WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of . the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at Ohaupo on Tuesday last, 9th inst. A goodly number of gentlemen were present, although (owing to the late hour at ■which the sale closed) many, -who wished to he present, were obliged to leave with their stock. A. Cox, Esq., l\f .H.R., President of the society, occupied the chair. The Chairman opened the meeting by explaining the nature of the business to be brought forward, and then called upon the Secretary to read the statement of accounts. The Secretary said that, owing to there having been no show held last year, the accounts were a very small matter, but the balance was on, the right side, and amounted to £62 6s — to the credit of the Association. ■ Mr K. Hill proposed, and Mr McNicol seconded : " That the accouuts read be adopted." Mr Harper proposed: "That, m the opinion of this society, thnre should be but one show m the Waikato, and that it ! should be held at Ohaupo." Not seconded. Mr Buttle proposed : " That this society do hold a show at Ohaupolin the autumn j of 1879." Mr Tisdall seconded. j Mr K. Hill proposed, as an amendment: J "That this society do hold a show at Ohaupo m the spiing of the present year." Mr S. Steele seconded. Mr. Fantham said that he was anew man m the district, but he took great interest m exhibitions of live stock. He wotdd like to see this society well estabHsfieu, but he thought that Hamilton was . the place that should be selected for holding the shows. Hamilton would draw tho whole of Waikato and Auckland; it was the only place accessible to Piako ; it was not too far from Cambridge nor from the Waipa ; and it was handy for the Auckland breeders. As for the proposal to hold an autumn show, he did not bslieve it would ever be a success ; it . had been tried m Canterbury, and had always failed. Mr Hill said that the bridge at the Narrows would make Ohaupo accessible and central to all parts of the Waikato. Mr Tisdall said no one had spoken m favor of an autumn show, but he failed to see why it should not be a success. He had read reports of very successful autumn shows held at Port Albert and elsewhere. The society was going under false pretences if it did not seek to encourge the agricultural as well as the pastoral interests, and an autumn show was calculated to do this. Mr Hatfield said Mr Tisdall had spoken of successful shows held at Port Albert, but the most successful show he had over seen was one at Te Awamutu, and it was held m the autumn. Mr Hill's amendment was then put and carried. Three hands were held up against it. Mr Wainwright proposed, and Mr Hill seconded, a vote of thanks to the retiring officers and committee. The following officers and committee were then elected : — A. Cox, Esq., President ; D. McNicol, Esq., vice-President ; Messrs W. Taylor, Wainwright, Storey, Lake, Flemmtng, Buttle, K. Hill, Brown, Byron, Hodgson, T. Goodfellow, R. Bosanko, and J. B. Whyte, Committee ; Mr J. H. Mandeno, Treasurer and Secretary. This concluded the business, and, with a vote of thanks to the Chairman, the meeting separated.
