THE POLITICAL POSITION. Last night's debate was intolerably dull, the Government persisting m pubbing up small guns, which considerably riled bhe Opposition, who had bheir big m*n ready bo speak. The House adj our tied at miinighb, as ib was evident the debabe could not possibly be tiuishel that night, although m anticipation of a division, all sorts of dodges had been used on both sides to get doubtful members oub of the way, and more than one on each side was out of ken of the whips, Mr Kennedy was down and ready to vote ab all hazards. There had been a great deal of dod^in^ over him. The Disqualification Committee consists of nine members, four Opposition, five Government. The evidence is perfecbly clear that he is disqua-ifieJ, but both yesterday and to-day the necessary quorum of five failed to attend to make up the report. The Opposition members were there, but the members of the Ministry on bhe Committee pretended scruples whether they shoul I act with a vote of confidence pending. Tn the meantime Mr Kennedy who has not been m the House lately avowed his intenbion of voting at all hazards. To-day Mr Bees brought the .matter before the House m a motion to reduce the quorum of committee, and a very angry discussion ensued, m which Messrs Stout, Bees, Macandew, Whitaker, Beid. Stafford, and Gisborne took part. All sorts of accusations of motives beeing freely bandied about. Bees motion wa3 opposed by the Government, and losb by three. The Speaker ruled there was no reason why Ministers should not acb on committed, and it is to meet to-morrow on the bill to remove doubtsaboat disqualification of Messrs Fisher and Peacock. When considering amendments made by the council, Mr Stoub made stroug remarks about the council, which the' Speaker declared were improper. The result waa Mr Stoub gave notice of motion that the present constitution of the ppiiaoU

was unsatisfactory. The amendment objected *o is one forbidding any member of either House taking payment as member of a River Board.
