Ayes, 8 j noes 17., Friday, 2.50 p.m. THE WANT OF CONFIJEND£ MOTION. The debate last night was dull. The Ministers, Button, Bo wen, Gibbs, Fitzroy, Maunder, and Harper, spake against the motion, and ilodgkinson, Ev.ns, Brown, Wakefield, Travers, and Thomson, m supporb of it. Mr Curtis moved the adjournment. The division is nob likely to take place before a late hous to night, if at all this week. The result will be m favour of Lhe Covernment by a small majority. None of lasb nights speeches deserve a special menbiouing. Last night, 8 p.m. This afternoon Curtis resumed the ' Waka Maori ' debate, quobing official returns, to show that the subscriptions had more than paid the cost of publication. Mr Montgomery declared bhe Opposition consisted of right and left wings, working cordially bogerher, and debermine 1 nob to resb till they had pluced on the Treasery benched men with fixed opinions, aud prepared to maintain them Mr iSatboii warmly supporbed the Government. Takamoana declared that if the present Government regained m offioe, bhere would be war iv this island wibhin a year, unless they changed the policy. The aebate is notlikely to end to-night. THfci NO VOTE. The Government; are sure of a majority, buc nob a large one.
