I said, I had only £10 in the house. He said £10 would do. Be then took out a blank cheque from his pooket, aud drew a cheque, signing his name to it, I. then asked Sir Oliver jf he was inolined to back the cheque, as I did not know the prisoner. I afterwards neat the cheque to Hamilton, and was informed that prisoner had no account there. I got the cheque back, and handed; iSiito Consijable McLeod. The , cheque now produced, drawn by George Dawaun von the Bauk of New Zealand is the one I saw the prisoner write. I have been at .the lews of this cheque for the full amount, *£I5 16s; "by it David Edward Bbind, Clerk in the Bn'ik of New Zealand at Hamilton, examined, gave evidence to the effect that prisoner never Had an account in the Bank »t Hamilton. Neil McLiebd, Constable stationed at Alexandra, gave evidence, as to laying the information.- : '■ , Prisontr declined to call any witnesses or make any statement; 1/ABOBNT AS BAILKK.
