Friday, July 6. Bafore W N Searancke, Esq., R M. Jone3 v Me Me3sage. — Assault. No appearance of iaformaut. Ca3e dismissed. POACHING. Robert Walker (a youth) was charged, on the information of Constable Breunan, with a breach of 'The Piotection of Animals Act, 1873/ to wit, shooting a Pheasant at Hautaupu, on the 21st, ult. Sergeant McG-overn prosecuted, and asked the leave of the Cjurb to amand the information, by striking out the words 1867, and inserting the words 1873. The amendment was allowed. The accused then pleaded guilty. m reply to the Court, tiergeant McG-overn stated, he was sorry, but ho could not aay a word m mitigation, aj the case wa3 a very bad one, and the accused acted wisely iv pleading guilty. Offences of this kind wera wery prevalent throughout the Wuikato, and should be puuished. .-if cer a savere lecture from the Couri, the accuse:! was fined £2 103 and costs, £1 ss.

As Walker's parents resided a loug distance from Cambridge, he might, perhaps, be allowed a little time. The Court th3n remarked, that Reid would get a few hours to find the money, and Walker would bealJoived one week.
