Sydney, July 3 The ' Sydney Morning Herald ' has a speoial telegram dated London, July 2nd, which says : — All accounts couour m stating that Russian, operations m Armenia have been checked, the Turks displaying unwonted activity m that portion of their territory. The Russians admit defeat with heavy loss at Sevin. The siege of Kars is not progressing much. 'The Russians wero- repulsed at Batumi, and driven from their position. • The belief man early peace is encouraged by the supineness of the Turks. In the defence of the Danube the Turkish fleet was quite inactive daring the crossing of the river by the Russians. The Turkish foroes evacuated Montenegro after severe fighting and euormous losses on both sides. Sydney, July 3. A large meeting of working men was held against immigration. Hundrads of Chinese at the Palmer are 'in a destitute condition.
