Charles Woodward (a baker from Aucklaud), waa charged.on the information of T Const ible Murray, with .using jorofenfl language in the hearing of the said constable, in the township of Hamilton East, on Sunday the 220 d nit. There. was; no appearance of the defendant,' and a warrant was issued for his apprehension. ABtraiva iiAKGHTAaa. ' John Franklin was charged by William. 1 Edwards, with having at Hamilton; East, used abusive and threitning language to him, on the 6sh inst., threatening to punch his b——y. head. Mr Whitaker appeared for the defendant, and pointed out to the informant that the case was really a frivolous one arising out of neighbours quarrels about trespassing fowls and advised , him to withdraw it. This was done, and the defendant was discharged. CIVIL SIDB. W M Hay v. Meagher—Claim, £3 2sv Mr Whitaker appeared for plaintiff. . W McQ-regor Hay, plaintiff, deposed : I am a solicitor in Hamilton, defendant is indebted to me in the sum of £3 2s as agreed upon. The money is still owing. Judgment for amount claimed, with JB2 6i 61 costs, to be paid within 24 hours.
PROFANB LANG-DAGB. ; Charles Woodward who had been apprehended during the sitting of the court, was then placed in the dock. W Murray, constable, stated that he was on duty in G-rey street, Hamilton East, on Sunday, April 22nd, about half past eleven o'clock. On passing Le Qae3ne's store he heard a person swearing in a loud voics, and went in the direction from where the. voice came. He heerd prisoner swear several times, and called to him and aaked him, his name. Witness then told Woodward he would summons him to court for using profane language in a public place. Ddf jodant was just iuside L.9 Quesne's fence when the language wa3 used. He, and .some, others were talking about a horse. Hugh Hunter, sworn, stated he was a carter, residing in Hamilton, and remembered being in Le Qieane's yard whan .defendant swore at a horse. . Defendant was convicted, and fined lOs and costs, 15a 6i, or in default 7 days . inprisonment.
