WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

The following are the report aud balance' sheet read and adopted at the meeting of Tuesday, held over from the report of the proceedingpublished in our last : — beport. < The Committee of the Waikato Agricultu>al aud Pastoral Association, in .presenting their report for the year 1876, beg to state that the Show was held a* agreed to at the meeting held at Ohaupo, iu April last. - The Jiho.w . was,, .weli patrouised by the public generally iu the way of attendance, but the number ot exhibits was not so lar^e as mighithave been wished. Your Cpmmittee attribute this result to several causes, most ot them avoidable upon a v iuture occasion. Mistakes aie sure to be made in starting new enterprises, and experience may be thereby gained for the future. Uiib of these mistake* was probably the offering of honorary prizes only as first priz.a. It is bedeved that upon a future occasion, better arrangements may be made, aud a greater success ensured. JSjhow held, as well as a Spring.Show, ths* following discussion took place : — ■\X Mr Tisdall said that the iate' show Was "not a success, because it was field iu the Spring. There had been three shows held at Te Awamutu. All of them were successful, because held in the Autumn. The Sooiety was an Agricultural as well -a a Pastoral Society, and agricultural produce should be considered. Those who could Bhow first class sheep and cattle, might be counted on the fingers of one hand, while any small farmer could show good potatoes or wheat, or butter, "and "these could hot' be shown in the spring.. .• . i . . ■ ' Mr Hammond seconded. He said that sheep might be judged with four or five mouths wool ou, and cattle were in better condition in autumn. Mr Mandnno. .proposed that there be only ona show, and that it be held in the early part of November. He did not believe, for one moment, that two shows would be patrouised It was difficult enough to work up one. As for produce, although ..prizdS had not been off. red at the lite show, it was not because there was none to be shown at that season, but rather because funds were coming in slowly, and the Committee preferred leaving it out altogether. • The spring was the proper time to .how dairy produce, ■ baboo, vegetables, &o , and as for sheep, they were nothing without the wool. Mr Rutherford seconded. He said, at the last show a'. Te Awamutu, he could have carried all the produce shown, on his hack easily. AmeDdmeht— " That there be only one Bhow," carried.
