KIHIKIHI HEADQUARTERS.

Sir,- — The one strong central Governm eat at Wellington, bh much talked of during the last days of provincialism, seems olive to the necessity of concentrating their small but efficient force. The recent announcement that the district head-quiuters of the Armed Constabulary m the Waikato is to be immediately removed from Hami : ton to the more important outpost of Kihikihi, is evidently a move m the right direction, and one that should have been carded out long ago. Hamilton cannot now grumble at the change ; she has long held the monopoly of the focus of government m the nutter of defence. Still 1 am told she will no 1 I give up without a (struggle. It, is industriously, circulated thnt Kihikihi has onlybarrack accommodation ror nbaut 15 men. Well, I am not well up m cubic ppnee and ventilation for armed men; but 1 am quite certain that I Baw 30 men qurtered m the barracks at Kihikilr, and that not very long , ago. Then again, about, a mile from the town boundary there is the Orakau blockhouse, capable of holding some 2t) men until accommodation oould be provided iu-the towu proper. And better still, there is an excellent Government bush wi hin half a mile of the rowri, which is so easily worked that during the list year the constabulary cut, and cirted quantities of it. all the wny from there to their headquarters at Hamilton. I ask, then, m the face of the facts, is Kihikihi a place that would entail considerable expense lo erect barracks, especially when ia is well known that m the force then? are good bushmen, sawyers, und carpenters, who wou'd be employed.- — I am, &c. f PfiO Bono Pubmoo. Kihikihi, 18th January, 1877. [Our correspondent will see tkat the proposed change of headquarters has been abandoned. — Ed. W.T.]
