•Sir.— l remember to have heard a sohoolhoy reading an account of the Isthmian or Olvmpio games, m tho course of which the Poet Chronicler makes use of the expression * Qui palmim meruit ferat," which now is a very common one. The object m quoting it nt the present time is to remind the people of Waikato, that a most worthy gentleman has passed away, whose services to the country and lately to our own district, merit some recognition from the hands of the sett'erp. A monument somewhat after the style of that erected. to the ni »mory of the late Colonel Nixon «fc Otihuhu placed perhaps at the confluen*eof the two ' rir rs, ' or elsewhere m the district, would be' a becoming 'recognition of the slight services which the late Sir Dmald McLe.n rendered to Waikato, and through it ta the colony gener«»llj Trusting that some other pens than mine will take the matter up, — lam, &o, Obelisk.
