CAMBRIDGE. July 3.

The Literary Society — or rather a small fragment of It — held a meeting on Thursday evening last, when the President, th» Rev S J Noill delivered the opening address, and read an essay on Truthseeking. The essay was the result of much thought and no little labour, and was thoroughly appreciated by the small but select audience. The Rev J smith and Mr Bright in moving 1 and seconding a vote of thanks to the locturer, both spoke of the danger of forming pre-coneeived judgments, aud of being the slaves of prejudice. Some business of a private nature was then transacted, and tho meeting was brought to a close. The next meeting, being a member's meeting will bo held at the Presbyterian Manse on Tuesday 11th inst, when n subject will be brought forward for discussion. It is a great pity that such a Society as this should want support, but, such is the case! The number and quality of the magazines for which the Society subscribe, are nafc equalled in any other couutry society in the Province. A public meeting is held onco a month, alternately with the public one, for the purpose of mutual improvement; ami yet such a Society, in the 19th century, in enlightened Cunbii'lije, actually wauia members. — OW^ CORRESPONDENT.
