A moating of the inhabitants of Alexandra was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday aftornon. In spito of the inclemency of the weather the public mustered strongly. The following 1 resolutions were carried ; — "Tnatin tho opinion of this meeting, the late interview held at Kaipiha, in the presence of some of the murderers of Europeans, was simply a disgrace to the colony, and that the homage paid by the Defence Minister to the rebels is calculated greatly to strengthen their position, and, encourage murder and crime; and we firmly believo that the native difficulty is now mainly supported by the weaknesa and temporising policy of the Native Office, which has fallon into utter contempt here by both races; and we have lost all confilencsin the policy of the Native Minister." The above resolution was carried -by forty to twelve. • The next resolution wag; — "That this ■ meeting is of opinion that a (ma, open, and straightforward native policy should now be adopted, and that there is not the lo ist ground to believe that it would endnntjei* the peace of the colony, but quite the reverse, a'ld that l.ho Native Office should now be abolisho '." The third resolution was as follsvrs : — "That a copy of l-hiwe resolution* be fofwardei to Hh Honor Sir Georga Grey an.l onr representative, Mr Cox, with a wish for them to" request that native matters be most Marching!/ enquired into by a committoo of tl>e House." Tho fourth resolution. was, "That this mooting is /( of opinion that the extrem« party views and ■ misleading statements upon political matters of the Wajkato Times only lead them to the supposition that it is one of the paid Government organs of the present Ministry, and also regrets tho ,want of a reliable newspaper to represent the opinions of the Waikato people.'" ■ [bn acoonnt of -the length of the report and the late hour of receiving it last night, we are compelled to hold it over to our next issue, tho speech, itself, of Mr Roche being nearly as long as the ordinary financial statement of Ministers]
