(From our Own Uor respondent! ) Auckland, Monday evening. At the Police Court to-day, Jud^e Fenton bade farevvell'to the Bench. He said it was the last time lie should sit there. A row occurred in Beresford street last night, in which Constable Graham received a rough handling. The perpetrators were sentenced to-day to one month and a week respectively. The case of Frederick Farrel,charged by Isabella Campbell with neglecting to contribute towards the support of an illegitimate child, came on again to day. The case *as remanded in order that the putative father might be brought fromWaikato. Three settlers were charged with a breach of the 22nd Section of the Highway's Act, by 'taking pact in a ratepayers meeting at the Wade, they not being qualified. The case is novel, and was remanded. A little son of Charles Burton, of Parnell, broke his leg in running across a playground. Only one tender was received for the City Council Debentures from the Auckland Savings Bank for the whole of the five thousand loan, at ninety. It was rejected, the minimum being ninety-five.
GIUHAMSTOWtf. Messrs Taylpr and Manro of the Trigonometrical Survey Department pnt up a temporary flag at Waiho instead of that recently pulled down. As soon as this was noticed by the Whakatohea natives they pulled that down. A meeting strongly urged the Government to make a direct road to Waitekanri. The Tairua Co. have lodged 46 oz from the fortnight's crushing. Russell. Cook's boat has succeeded in capturing 1 a large whale which will yield six tons of oil.
