PARLIAMENTARY.
In the Houscfof Representatives, Mr Richardson moved the 'second reading of the Branch Railways Bill. Macandrew and other members of the Opposition opposed it as being fatal to the construction of 1 tail ways by private enterprise and as thvoiwing too much power into the hands of Ministers. , After some discussion the ? Opposition called for a division, resulting in their defeat by 45 against, 12. The only other measure dealt with was the Debtors and Creditors' Bill, which Mr Bo wen . explained, ■was to facilitate arrangements between debtors and creditors, to protect an honest debtor and provide for contributions from property acquired subsequent to bankruptcy. The debate was adjourned in order to allow members an opportunity tot considering the Bill.
