The second defeat on the Division, and the complete overthrow at the Hutt has shattered the Opposition and shewn their miserable numbers iv the House. This . afternoon, Ilolleston, who pegs away with extraordinary persistency at the one topic again, raised the question of the disqualification of members by receiving money from the Government tor lands. He moved the appointment of a select Committee. He referred to the leasing of the Riapeha block to members of the House, also to Buckland's transaction, and the Piako swan 1 p. He sud two members in the Upper House, (Williamson and Taylor), were interested in that block, and condemned the Government for trafficking with members. Sir Donald McLean siid the Government would assist the lion, member to the utmost in any investigition. He said in the case of Ituapeha, the Government had stepped in and secured those lands for the benefit of the country.
