Said Ministry ought to have resigned in favour of Stafford, and have let him bring it down. Mr O'Connor moved adjourned debate. This afternoon iv House of Representatives, j Mr Kelly presented a petition from Tauranga, against the law allowing Maories to vote for Europeans, and not allowing Europeans to vote for Maories. Sir George Grey gave notice to ask for a return, giving names of Europeans to whom comp3nsation had been paid for land out of the £750,000 set apart for purchasing native lands ; he also presented a petition from certain natives at Hauraki, complaining of the restrictions as to the sale of native lands, and complaining that Maoris are not allowed to serve upon juries. Mr Reader Wood gave notice to move for a return of the estimated amount of land fund received from each provincial district from November 1875 to June 1876. — Mr Montgomery asked how much of the £127,020, for which credit had been taken in the estimates of ways and means under contributions from the Land Fund, was for interest oa railways. — Major Atkinson said the return would probably be prepared this afternoon. — Iv reply to Mr Yon der Heyde's question, why the railway wharf, costing £25,000, should be built for Wellington out of Colonial Funds, whilst the Auckland Harbor BDard had to provide their own wharf accommodation out of money raised under the Hirbar Board Act? — Mr Richardson said if the General Government had not found funds directly for the Auckland Harbor Board, they had at least four endowments for that body ; there was no Harbor Board in Wellington.

The Native Minister's Statement, regarding Land Purchases in the North Island, shews th.it the total quantity of land purchased under the Public Works system since 1872, is 2.941,842 acres purchased, and 1,522.502 acres leased. In the province of Aucklafll, 490,78 1 acres have been purchased, iwid 3^ 1,601 acres leased since 1872, cosing £286,019. Large blocks have been acquired when posssible, and much land adapted for settlement. Several valuable blocks are under negoeiation.
