HORSES. Judges : — Messrs Austin, Gwyna and Parker.

Draught Entires* — For this class there were only two entries and the owners of the animals each received a prize, the first falling to the lot of Messrs Goodfellow, and the second to Mr -Foster.

Heavy Brood Mares — There were three entries. &% was the case last year, the first prize was to Mr Seccombe, although not as an acknowledgment of the excellent qualities of the same &nimal, as the owner was unfoitiuiate enough to 3}ose the winner of last year by disease some months Ifcack. Mr J. P. Neill took the second prize with &n animal in the opinion of some equal to her 4efeater.

Heavy Draught Filly, 3 years. — Messrs Good•feilovv were tl'e sole competitors in this class. The Judges very propeily awarded a prize to a very fine -miinal.

Heavy Draught Colt or Filly, 2 years. — The $rsfc prize was awarded to Mr Gibson, and the second to Mr Ramsay. There were seven entries.

Brood, Maius Medium Draught, best adapted *nr asriculcardl purpoHes. — There were seven coin-

went to Mr Fleming's-stabte, ai(d tlie second to Mr ,B,utlierford's.

Pair op Horses or Mares best adapted for Agricultural Purposes — Mr Drabble took the only prize with a pair which would reflect credit uupn any farmer.

Saddle Horses— For thi3 prize there were about fifteen competitors, and as is usual, the pacing of these by the judges was the feature of the day with most of the visitors. There are few men who will acknowledge that they are not judges of a hack, and to this is to be attributed the large profits often realised by the knowing ones. We heard the prizes awarded by the spectators to nearly every animal in the ring, in the meantime the judges were carefully weeding out those not in their opinion, up to the highest standard. After no inconsiderable trouble thoy gave the blue ribbon to Major Jackson and the red to Mr T. Bond, ahe Rev L. C. Brady was awarded the empty honour of having his -animal highly commended. Light Harness Horses — There were six competitors for this prize, which was awarded to Mr Hisfginson.

Lady's Haek — Mr Alhvill succeeded in. gaining the prize for excellence over seven other competitors. The extra prize- given by Mr John Hamilton for the Best Foal by Fancy, was taken by Mr Storey. The prize given by Mi* Kjrkwood for the Best Foal by Benathulath, was awardqd to the giver. This concludes our list of prizes, but we cannot allow our notice of Horse stock to pass without paying a well-deserved compliment to the settlers in 'the Waikato, for we are confident that there are very few districts in the Colony in which a better show could be made, and it is easy to predict, if the course hitherto pursued be persevered in, that the Waikato export a large number of draught and other useful horses, and there are few things pay the preducer better than the breeding of really good horses, they are always of value in the markets of our cities..
