LAWSUIT AGAINST THE GENERAL GOVERNMENT.
Captain Beadon it is said intends to take a case against the General Government before the Privy Council. In 1839 he purchased 15,360 acres of land on the Piako river from a native named Koenaki, and the tiansaction was duly gazetted. His Sydney agents, however, who purchased the land through a subagent, were compelled to go into the Bankruptcy Comt, and Captain Beadon annulled the power of attorney that he had given to them to act as his agents. After this was done the sub-agent withdrew Captain Beadon's claim to the Piako lands, without producing or showing authoigy for so doing. The Court allowed the claim to be withdrawn, and for this Captain Beadon holds the Government responsible. He never authorised the claim to be withdrawn, and the Sydney firm had ceased to be his agents. The land in question has since been purchased by Mr. 11. C. Young, 1 Messrs. Whitaker and Russell and otheis.
