NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING COMPANY
The annual meeting of shareholders in the Auckland Branch of the above-named Company, was held yesterday afternoon in the public 100 m of the New Zealand Insurance Company's building. Dr. Campbell occupied the chair, and after the usual pieliminaries, expressed an opinion that veiy few of those who had taken shares had done so from any expec tafion of making a profit, but for the pin pose of putting s. stop to a monopoly which at the time this Company was formed was acting very prejudicially to the general interests of the Colony. In this respect the company had beyond all question been successful, and if no direct dividend had been paid, he thought that the indirect advantage find profit to every mci can tile man connected with it had been immense. Mr. 11. Isaacs fully endorsed this opinion, but thought it desk able to insist on greater care in the management than had beeß the rule heretofore. Messrs. Isaacs-, Claik, and Campbell, were then elected diiectois for the forthcoming twelve months, and the meeting closed with the usual vote of thanks to the chairman.
